A recent comprehensive study of the architecture of Bakla Tepe offers new contributions to our understanding of the development of architectural traditions and settlement models not only of coastal Western Anatolia but also of the eastern Aegean Islands. At the beginning of the 3rdmillennium BC, Bakla Tepe and other coastal settlements of western Anatolia were surrounded by strong defensive systems.
