Analysis of blood groups from fingerprint patterns of Turkish Citizens
(Batman Üniversitesi, 2018-06-30) Ceyhan, Eyüp Burak; Güllü, Merve; Ulucan, Ceren
This study examines 10 fingerprints of each of 82 Turkish citizens the ages between 18 and 70 and presents the results of blood group distribution of people from only fingerprints. The fingerprint patterns are first divided into 3 categories such as loop, whorl and arches. The blood group distribution was then analyzed according to these categories. It was found that the loop-type patterns were found more intensively than other patterns, AB blood group had little relation among loop-type patterns and loop rate for A blood group is higher. The results were compared to other types of patterns. The results were also demonstrated that the relation among fingerprint feature vectors and blood groups might exist and blood group can be achieved from fingerprints. It is expected that the proposed analysis might help to develop systems and various new applications such as determination of blood group of a criminal from a fingerprint found on crime scene and determination of blood group of a person when he/she borns fastly and without any cost.

Mitigation harmonic with LCL passive filter in off-grid PV system
    (Batman Üniversitesi, 2018-06-30) Adak, Süleyman
The increased use of power electronic based devices and the nonlinear characteristics of circuit elements used in these devices have led to the formation of harmonic components in power systems. The stable and safe working of power systems depends on the foundation of quantities such as voltage and current, which are sinusoidal and at 50 Hz frequency. However, these foundation quantities lose their sinusoidal characteristics because of many reasons and unwanted harmonic components occur in the off-grid power system. It is highly preferred to use passive LCL filter to reduce the harmonic components that occur in the solar system. The proposed power system is a combination of solar panels, a DC/DC boost converters, solar inverters, six-pulse rectifiers, passive LCL filters and RL inductive loads. A six-pulse uncontrolled rectifier produces 5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 17th, 19th, etc. Harmonic components. A passive LCL filter is used to reduce the input current of the total harmonic distortion (THDI) of an uncontrolled rectifier. According to these results, the designed passive LCL filters have a simple structure and control is not too complicated provides significant advantages and are not complicated to control, which provides significant advantages. Modelling of off-grid PV power system and simulation was performed with Matlab/Simulink. Simulation results showed that the THDI value reduced from 91.53 % to 2.927%. As a result, LCL filter improves both the system efficiency and reliability of standalone PV power systems.

A micromechanical approach for predicting effective mechanical properties of Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites fabricated with 3D printers
(Batman Üniversitesi, 2018-06-30) Belhouideg, Soufiane; Ouhsti, Morade; El Haddadi, Benachir
Additive Manufacturing or Three dimensional (3D) printing is a new technology widely used to produce three-dimensional parts. 3D polymerbased printers have become easily accessible to the public. Recently, a new kind of 3D printer has been developed to manufacture printed polymer composites reinforced with continuous or short fibers. Usually, the technology used by these 3D printers is Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM). The aim of this study is to predict the mechanical properties of printed materials in Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites using a micromechanical approach. Indeed, the main idea of this approach is to characterize the effective mechanical properties from a microstructural description of the heterogeneous materials and the knowledge of the local behavior of constituents using the homogenization process. The predictions of the effective mechanical properties were confronted with experimental data obtained from the literature. The difference between the predicted and experimental values does not exceed 28.6%. The micromechanical approach is a good tool for designers to estimate the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced 3D printed polymer composites which require specific mechanical properties.

A review on alternative hydropower production methods
    (Batman Üniversitesi, 2018-09-18) Muratoğlu, Abdullah
Increasing energy prices, exponentially growing power need and detrimental effects of conventional fossil fuel consumption has lead scientists and engineers to find alternative and clean ways of energy production. Hydropower is one of the clean and renewable energy extraction methods providing very high potential of energy with considerably high predictability. Conventional hydroelectric plants (HEPP) are quite old technique of energy production covering about one fifth of electricity need of the world. Hydroelectric energy is site specific and most of the suitable locations for HEPPs are already exploited. Also the conventional technology have high amount of civil works together with serious environmental impacts. In this study, both conventional and alternative hydropower production methods were reviewed with special emphasize on modern technology and processes. Run-of-river hydropower production schemes, tidal energy and other in-stream energy conversion systems, wave energy technologies, ocean thermal and osmotic power stations were analyzed. The methodology and device mechanisms were investigated.
