Öğe Experimental investigation of strength of embedded strap lap joints under tensile loads(Batman Üniversitesi, 2017) İşcan, BahattinIn this study, stress behavior of double strap joints under tensile load experimentally investigated. For reinforcing the joint, the strap plates were embedded in the main adherend. Dewveld 530 was used as adhesive material and glass fiber reinforced epoxy adhesive as adherend for experiments. Experiments were carried out for different adherend thicknesses, embedded heights, and overlap lengths. Results showed that increasing the height of the embedded cover plate resulted in decreased stress values in the adhesive layer. The most effective parameter was overlap length to on the strength of specimens.Öğe The effect of n-butanol additive on low load combustion, performance and emissions of biodiesel-diesel blend in a heavy duty diesel power generator(Elsevier, 2017-04) Işık, Mehmet Zerrakki; Bayındır, Hasan; İşcan, Bahattin; Aydın, HüseyinDiesel power generators are often used under partially load conditions. Especially, under low load conditions, it is crucial to find a solution for their considerably high brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc) and exhaust output emissions. Other points are the usability of waste cooking oil and an oxygenated alternative fuel in low load conditions of diesel generator. In this point of view, 10% n-butanol and 10% biodiesel mixture was blended with 80% of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel named here as BB20 was used and comparisons have been made with 20% biodiesel/80% diesel fuel named here as B20 and ultra low sulfur diesel fuel named here as (D2). Previously, main important physical and chemical fuel properties of test fuel have been found. These fuels were tested in low load operations of a diesel engine generator in order to find out the effects of blend fuels on combustion characteristics, performance and emissions of the test engine. The test results are presented in this paper and seem to raise quite interesting points. Butanol addition to diesel and biodiesel blends can be considered as a good solution for reducing density, viscosity and thus sustainable usability of biodiesel and increase thermal efficiency and lower carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) under comparatively lower load conditions in diesel power generator engines.Öğe The effect of overlap length adhesive with bonded in Z type materials(Academic Journals, 2011-09-11) İşcan, Bahattin; Adin, Hamit; Aydın, TurgutThe usage of adhesives as connecting method is increasing rapidly in today world. Many of research, development and engineering have been made to find the most important parameters of adhesion. In this study, stress analysis of bonded Z type that connected with various adhesives has been investigated. The adhesive thickness and overlap non-angle was constant but overlap length and overlap angle were varied. This paper has deal with the effect of overlap length on predicting of failure load of adhesive. An effective method for numerical solution in finite element method (FEM) has been performed in analysis. The FEM code employed was ANSYS(10.0). Experimental results were compared with numerical results and were found quite reasonable.Öğe Optimization of process parameters of medium carbon steel joints joined by MIG welding using Taguchi method(European Mechanical Science, 2022-03-20) İşcan, Bahattin; Adin, Mehmet ŞükrüIn this study, related to getting better obtain to the mechanical properties of medium carbon steel joints joined by MIG welding method using the Taguchi method welding groove were optimized. Grove angle (60ᵒ, 75ᵒ and 90ᵒ), current (100 A, 110 A and 120 A) and voltage (25 V, 30 V and 35 V) were used as welding parameters. The results showed that the highest tensile strength as 597.963 MPa was obtained at groove angle 90ᵒ, current 120 A and voltage 30 V, the lowest tensile strength was obtained as 395.125 MPa. The highest elongation as 11.551% was obtained at groove angle 90ᵒ, current 120 A and voltage 30 V, the lowest elongation was obtained as 8.354%. In addition, it was observed that the changes in current and voltage values significantly affect the tensile strength and elongation values of the joints. According to ANOVA analyses, the most effective parameter on average tensile strength and elongation were determined to be groove angle (62.75% and 75.58%, respectively). Based on S/N ratios, the optimal parameters for average tensile strength and elongation were determined A3B3C2 factors.Öğe Improving the usability of vegetable oils as a fuel in a low heat rejection diesel engine(Elsevier, 2012-06) İşcan, Bahattin; Aydın, HüseyinUsability of a waste vegetable oil in coated diesel engines was experimentally investigated. Waste corn oil was blended with petroleum diesel fuel by ratios of 15% corn oil to %85 diesel fuel (B15), 35% corn oil to %65 diesel fuel (B35) and 65% corn oil to %35 diesel fuel (B65). The surfaces of the engine piston and both intake and exhaust valves were coated with ZrO 2 layer in order to make the combustion chamber insulated. Thus heat transfer through the combustion chamber was aimed to be reduced with the purpose of increasing the thermal efficiency and performance of the engine and also maintain the usability of vegetable oil in diesel engines. B15, B35, B65 and standard diesel fuels were used in the coated test engine. Performance parameters and exhaust emissions characteristics of all the above mentioned fuels were clarified and compared with uncoated engine test values of normal diesel fuel. It is believed that the main purpose of this study has been achieved as the engine performance parameters such as power and torque of the engine were increased with simultaneous decreases in the brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc). Besides, many of exhaust emission parameters such as CO, HC, and smoke opacity were decreased.
