The Tigris River goes through its own narrow and deep valley which had been opened in an area called Jura type folds, by merging with Batman Stream between Raman and Gercüş anticlines in the south of Batman city. The Tigris incision nearly into the highlands in this area can be mentioned as the Tigris plays both antecedent and superimposed roles in the formation of the narrow and deep valleys in this zone. Today, the field is shaped by many structural factors such as tectonism, folded and horizontal structures, karstification, fluvial and morphogenetic processes and peculiar to these processes, rich and various reliefs are in question (faulted reliefs, folded structure reliefs, horizontal and monoclonal structure reliefs, components belonging to a fluvial topography and karstic landforms). Besides those, some landforms encountered which are formed both in arid, semi-arid, and humid periods in this area in the past. (Tafoni, alveols, witness and mushroom rocks, silex, silica and the formations of calcrete duricrust, travertine deposits and etc.). The Tigris River Valley and its surroundings, where the ancient Hasankeyf settlement is also located show variety in terms of cultural geology and landforms. This valley was experienced a very intensive occupation sequence and human activities since geomorphological advantages as well as geological material are present there. Therefore, sites, shelters, ritual areas and tombs carved into rocks, castles and several features belonging to these cultural assessments are found in the research area
