Öğe Effect of temperature, force, and vibration on fatigue strength of friction stir-welded AA7075 aluminum alloy joints(SpringerLink, 2021-01-04) Çelik, Yahya Hışman; Kılıçkap, Erol; Çetkin, EdipIn this study, the AA7075 alloy pairs were welded by friction stir welding method by using conical- and triangular-type stirrer pins. Welding forces and moments, vibration, and temperature values have been measured during the jointing depending on the welding parameters. Finally, microstructures were examined and mechanical tests were carried out. Results obtained from the experiments revealed that at low spindle speed and welding feed rates, the temperatures formed on the surface of the alloy pair were high, the vibrations were low, and the welding force and moments were partially high. When the microstructures of the welded areas are examined, it was determined that the conical mixing pin has a better microstructure than the triangular mixing pin. In addition, it was determined that the mechanical properties of welded joints having a good microstructure were quite good. As a result, it was observed that forces during welding, temperature of welding, and vibration values have an effect on microstructure and mechanical properties.Öğe The flexural fatigue behavior of honeycomb sandwich composites following low velocity impacts(MDPI, 2020-01-13) Topkaya, Tolga; Solmaz, Murat YavuzThis study experimentally investigated the flexural fatigue behaviors of honeycomb sandwich composites subjected to low velocity impact damage by considering the type and thickness of the face sheet material, the cell size and the core height parameters. Carbon-fiber reinforced composite and the aluminum alloy was used as the face sheet material. First, the static strength of undamaged and damaged specimens was determined by three-point bending loads. Secondly, the fatigue behaviors of the damaged and undamaged specimens were determined. Low velocity impact damage decreased the flexural strength and fatigue lives but increased the damping ratio for all specimens. Maximum damping ratio values were observed on specimens with a aluminum face sheet.Öğe A research on the fatigue strength of the single-lap joint joints bonded with nanoparticle-reinforced adhesive(Welding in the World, 2021-01) Adin, Hamit; Saraç, İsmail; Temiz, ŞemsettinNano-technological developments, which have made significant progress in recent years, have significant impact on the science of adhesives. Therefore, in our study, the static and fatigue strengths of single-lap joints (SLJs) incorporating nanoparticles were compared to those without nanoparticles. Steel plates were used in the adhesive joints. The results revealed that average damage load increased significantly in nanoparticle-reinforced adhesive joints. The highest damage load was obtained with 4 wt% nanoAl2O3 in epoxy adhesive. As the average damage load increased, the locus of damage changed from interfacial to the mixture of interfacial and cohesive. Also, fatigue strengths of the joints increased when the adhesive joint had nano-Al2O3 and nano-SiO2, and decreased when the adhesive joint had nano-TiO2.Öğe Fatigue behavior of honeycomb sandwich composites under flexural and buckling loading(INCDTP - Leather and Footwear Research Institute (ICPI), 2016) Topkaya, Tolga; Solmaz, Murat YavuzThis study experimentally investigated the fatigue behaviors of honeycomb-sandwich composites under buckling and three-point bending loads. The ASTM C 365 and ASTM C 393 standards were used as references to prepare test specimens and conduct experiments. The investigation looked at how the cell diameter, core thickness and thickness of the skin material affected the fatigue behavior. It was observed that the most significant parameter affecting fatigue under buckling loads was the cell diameter, and the least significant parameter affecting fatigue under three-point loads was the thickness of the skin material.
