Özet
Türk Milleti’nin Milli Mücadele’yi kazanarak bağımsızlığını kazanmasını sağlayan Atatürk, savaş sonrasında kurduğu Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ni sağlam temeller üzerine inşa etmek için uğraşmıştır. Asker, devlet adamı, eğitimci, inkılâpçı, önder vb. birçok vasıflara sahip olan Atatürk aynı zamanda duygu yönü zengin bir kişiydi. Merhamet duygusu güçlü olan Atatürk, hayvanları çok severdi. En çok atları seven Atatürk, çok sevdiği atlarından birinin ölümüne çok üzülmüştür. Sakarya adlı atını da çok seven Atatürk, atlardan sonra köpek ve kuşlara düşkündü. Milli Mücadele döneminde Alber adında bir köpeği vardı. Atatürk’ün en sevdiği köpeği Foksidi. Köpeklerden sonra kuşları seven Atatürk’ün Çankaya Köşkü’nde bir güvercinliği bulunmaktaydı. Burada güvercinlerden başka birçok hayvan da bulunmaktaydı. Ayrıca Dolmabahçe Sarayı’nın bahçesinde de birçok hayvan beslemekteydi. Hayvanları çok seven Atatürk, katıldığı tören ve karşılamalarda kurban kesilmesini istemezdi.
