During the Ottoman period, there were a substantial number of migrant settlers in the Syrian geographical region. In the 16th Century Aleppo, Damascus, Tripoli and Humus Sanjaks were located in this region whereby migrant settlers lived, there were also migrant settlers comprised of Turkmens, Kurds and Arabs at Hama Sanjak as well. These migrant settlers living at Hama Sanjak comprised a substantial part of the Ottoman population, they were living off animal husbandry and from season to season they would migrate to different geographies. While the majority of the Turkmen migrant settlers lived at Hama commune, the major part of Ekrad communities lived in Barin commune. In this paper we shall look into the population numbers of the Turkmen, Kurd and Arab tribes who lived in Hama between the period 1526 – 1594, and try to determine the exact regions of the Sanjak where these tribes had chosen as their living areas and what kinds of taxes they used to pay.
