Öğe Coordinated design of TCSC and PSS by using PSO algorithm for enhancement of SMIB power system stability(Batman Üniversitesi, 2017) Ekinci, Serdar; Hekimoğlu, BaranThe main aim of this study is to investigate the enhancement of power system stability via individual and coordinated design of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensation (TCSC) and Power System Stabilizer (PSS) in single machine infinite bus (SMIB) power system. The coordinated design problem of PSS and TCSC-based controllers is formulated as an optimization problem with an eigenvalue-based objective function. Then, particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied to search for optimal controller parameters. To compare the performance of PSS and TCSC-based controllers, both of them are designed independently at first and then in a coordinated manner for individual and coordinated applications. The proposed stabilizers are tested on a weakly connected power system subjected to various disturbances. The eigenvalue analysis and nonlinear simulation results show the robustness and the effectiveness of the proposed controllers and their ability to provide efficient damping of low frequency oscillations. Matlab/SIMULINK software package is used for the simulations.Öğe Determining relevant features in estimating short-term power load of a small house via feature selection by extreme learning machine(IEEE, 2017-11-02) Ertuğrul, Ömer Faruk; Sezgin, Necmettin; Öztekin, Abdulkerim; Tağluk, Mehmet EminEstimating short-term power load is a fundamental issue in the power distribution system. Since short-term power load is related to many parameters such as weather conditions, and time. The aim of this study is to determine the relevant parameters in estimating short-term power load not only in order to decrease the computational cost, but also to achieve higher success rates. Furthermore, by using selected features the required memory, equipment and communication costs are also decreased in real time applications. Feature selection by extreme learning machine method was used in determining relevant features. The short-term power loads of two houses (one of them has a power generation capability) were used in tests and achieved results showed lower error rates were obtained by using less number of features.Öğe Predicting factors affecting PISA 2015 mathematics literacy via radial basis function artificial neural network(Batman Üniversitesi, 2019-05-23) Güre Bezek, Özlem; Kayri, Murat; Erdoğan, FevziIn this study, radial basis function artificial neural network (RBFN), which is one of the of data mining methods, was employed to determine the factors affecting PISA 2015 (Programme for International Student Assessment - PISA), Mathematics literacy. Mathematics literacy scores, which were made in categorical form with three level dependent variables, 25 independent variables, and considered to have affected the dependent variables, were employed in evaluating and validating the proposed method. Also, in order to determine factors affecting PISA 2015 Mathematics literacy, information obtained from a total of 4422 students (2165 (49%) of whom were males and 2257 (51%) of whom were females) who participated the exam was used. According to the obtained results, the correct classification rate of mathematics achievement in the radial based artificial neural network model was found to be 85.2%. In addition, it is seen that the most important factor that were affecting Mathematics literacy was Turkish language success status and the other variables that were setting significance are targeted point in school life, father education level and mother education level.Öğe Grasshopper optimization algorithm for automatic voltage regulator system(IEEE, 2018-06-21) Ekinci, Serdar; Hekimoğu, BaranA novel design method is presented to determine optimum proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller parameters of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system utilizing the grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA). The proposed approach is a simple and effective algorithm that is able to solve many optimization problems even those with unknown search spaces effectively. The simplicity of algorithm provides high quality tuning of optimal PID controller parameters. The integral of time weighted squared error (ITSE) is used as the performance index to confirm the performance of the proposed GOA-PID controller. When compared to the other PID controllers based on Ziegler- Nichols (ZN), differential evolution (DE), and artificial bee colony (ABC) tuning methods, the proposed method is found highly effective and robust to improve AVR system's transient response.Öğe Three-dimensional modeling in medical image processing by using fractal geometry(Journal of Computers, 2017-09) Çalışkan, Abidin; Çevik, UlusMedical images are visualized by computer and processed to obtain larger, more organized, and three-dimensional (3D) images. Thus, significant images are provided. The processed data facilitate diagnosis and treatment in the medical fields. The 3D surface models of related areas are formed by using volumetric data obtained by employing medical imaging methods such as Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Computer Tomography (CT). The purpose of this study is to obtain 3D images from the two-dimensional CT slices. These slices are obtained from the existing medical imaging devices and transferred to the z space and a mesh structure is provided between them. In addition, we investigated 3D imaging techniques, visualization, basic data types, conversion into main graphical components, and imaging algorithms. At the phase of obtaining 3D images; the image processing methods such as surface and volume imaging techniques, smoothing, denoising, and segmentation were used. The complexity and efficiency properties of the imaging algorithms were investigated and image enhancement algorithms were utilized.Öğe Wet chemical methods for producing mixing crystalline phase ZrO 2 thin film(Elsevier, 2016-07) Pakma, Osman; Özdemir, Cengiz; Kariper, İshak Afşin; Özaydın, Cihat; Güllü, ÖmerThe aim of the study is to develop a more economical and easier method for obtaining ZrO 2 thin films at lower temperature, unlike the ones mentioned in the literature. For this purpose, wet chemical synthesis methods have been tested and XRD, UV-VIS and SEM analysis of ZrO 2 thin films have been performed. At the end of the analysis, we identified the best method and it has been found that the features of the films produced with this method were better than the films produced by using different reagents, as well as the films reported in the literature. Especially it has been observed that the transmittance of the film produced with this method were higher and better than the films in the literature and the others. In addition, refractive index of the film produced with this method was observed to be lower. Moreover, by using the same method Al/ZrO 2 /p-Si structure has been obtained and it has been compared with Al/p-Si reference structure in terms of electrical parameters.Öğe Detection and recognition of Turkish license plate characters with image segmentation based correlation method(Batman Üniversitesi, 2018) Çalışkan, Abidin; Acar, Emrullah; Orun, ÖzgeÖğe I V and C V F characteristics of aniline green N type silicon diode(İstanbul University, 2015) Özkan, Samet; Güllü, Ömer; Arsel, İsmail; Özaydın, Cihat; Pakma, Osman; Turut, AbdülmecitWe have studied the I-V, C-V and C-f characteristics of the Aniline Green (AG)/n-type Si structure. In organic/inorganic semiconductor contact applications, in order to keep the technological difficulties and unknowns to a minimum, silicon is generally chosen as the substrate semiconducting material. In this structure, deposition of organic materials on the inorganic semiconductor can generate large number of interface states at the semiconductor surface that strongly influence the electrical properties of the AG/n-Si structure. The values of the ideality factor, series resistance and barrier height obtained from two methods were compared, and it was seen that there was an agreement with each other. The downward concave curvature of the forward bias current-voltage characteristics at sufficiently large voltages is caused by the presence of the effect of series resistance. Thus, the concavity of the forward bias current-voltage characteristics increases with the increasing series resistance value. The high resistance values have given the high ideality factors. Also, the higher values of capacitance at low frequencies were attributed to the excess capacitance resulting from the interface states in equilibrium with the nSi that can follow the ac signal.Öğe Photoelectric and photocapacitance characteristics of Au/pyrene/N-Si MIS structures(Journal of Non-Oxide Glasses, 2017-04-01) Güllü, Ömer; Pakma, Osman; Özaydın, Cihat; Arsel, İsmail; Turmuş, MesutThis paper presents in-depth analysis of the current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of identically prepared Au/Pyrene(C16H10)/n-Si hybrid organic-oninorganic semiconductor photovoltaic cells (total 43 diodes). The barrier heights, ideality factors and reverse bias saturation currents of all devices were extracted from the electrical characteristics. The mean barrier height, mean ideality factor and mean saturation current from I-V measurements were calculated as 0.79 ± 0.01 eV, 1.40 ± 0.08 and (1.01 ± 0.46)x10-8 A, respectively. Also, the photoelectric (I-V) and photocapacitance (C-V and conductance (G)-voltage (V)) characteristics of the Au/Pyrene/n-Si device under 100 mW/cm2 light illumination were investigated. It has been seen that the light illumination increases strongly the current, capacitance and conductance values of the device due to electron-hole charge pair generation. The C-V and G-V characteristics under illumination have shown a non-monotonic dependence of capacitance on frequency giving rise to a peak. This is attributed to the existence of electrically active traps. The open circuit voltage and short circuit current of the Au/Pyrene/n-Si device were extracted as 80 mV and 30 µA, respectively.Öğe Electrical parameters of safranine T N silicon contacts(İstanbul University, 2015) Güllü, Ömer; Arsel, İsmail; Özkan, Samet; Özaydın, Cihat; Pakma, Osman; Turut, AbdülmecitIn this work, it has been investigated current-voltage (I-V) andcapacitance-voltage-frequency (C-V-f) characteristics of the Al/SafranineT(ST)/n-Si structure. The values of the ideality factor, series resistance and barrier height calculated by using different methods were compared. It was seen that there was an agreement with each other. Also, it was seen that the barrier height value for our device was higher than one value of 0.50 eV of conventional Al/n-Si Schottky contact. The change in the barrier height value of the device was ascribed to ST thin layer modifying the effective barrier height by influencing the space charge region of the Si inorganic semiconductor. The downward concave curvature of the forward bias current-voltage characteristics at sufficiently large voltages have been attributed to the effect of series resistance. Thus, the concavity of the forward bias current-voltage characteristics increases with increasing series resistance value. It has been seen that the values of capacitance are almost independent to a certain value of frequency, after this value, the capacitance decreases with increasing frequency. The higher values of capacitance at low frequencies have been attributed to the excess capacitance resulting from the interface states in equilibrium with the n-Silicon that could follow the alternating current signal.
